[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwoman's community update

End of Summer Season

As we wind down the last days of August, I want to remind residents that we are approaching the end of our summer season at our Town beaches. Many of our summer staff will begin to return to school, and the Town may no longer be able to fully staff our beach facilities, including lifeguards. Please be mindful when attending our beaches, especially with children, that lifeguards may not be on duty at all times. However, beach passes will still be required through Labor Day and we will continue to have patrol and gate monitors in place. After Labor Day weekend, we will no longer be staffing gate guards and sporting activities will ramp up at the Surf Club and other athletic fields around town.

Back to School

Please note that Tuesday, August 29, 2023 marks the start of the school year for children enrolled in Madison Public Schools. I want to wish our teachers, administrators, parents, and most importantly our students, a healthy and successful school re-opening for this academic year.  For more information including orientation dates, 2023-2024 calendar, and much more visit the district's Back to School page.

Summer Concert Options

Join us this Sunday, August 20th at 6 p.m. on the Town Green for a free concert featuring the Last Licks. To see a full line-up for this summer, please visit our Summer Concerts webpage

The Town also sponsors a concert series at Salt Meadow Park. Please join us on Friday, August 18th at Salt Meadow Park for a free concert featuring Caribbean Vibe.  Concerts begins at 6pm. For more information on the dates and line-up for the summer, please visit the Salt Meadow Park webpage

Madison Jaycee Jamboree

The Madison Jaycees will hold their annual Jamboree tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Surf Club. There will be a raffle with great prizes from local businesses up and down the shoreline. Many local businesses have been generous to provide prizes for this event, including restaurants, bars, breweries, gift stores, jewelry stores, hardware stores, and more! Please visit the Madison Jaycee's Facebook page for more information.

Summer Festival of Arts & Antiques

The Madison Historical Society will host a Summer Festival of Arts and Antiques on Saturday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m. This end-of-summer celebration of art, antiques, handmade crafts, and family fun will feature vendors of fine antiques and collectibles from across the region, selling ceramics, furniture, glass, jewelry, kitchenware, linens, memorabilia, pottery, toys, vintage accessories, and more. For a full visiting of admission, events, vendors and food please visit the Madison Historical Society website.

Madison Salutes Our Heroes & September 11th Remembrance Ceremony

The Madison Exchange Club will host a commemorative event this September on the Madison Green. This event will be a display of 300 3' x 5' flags. The event is a reverent tribute which strives to unite the country in the service of others. To find our more information on this year’s event, please visit the Exchange Club website .

To honor those men and women lost on September 11, 2001, and to pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, the Town will be holding its annual remembrance ceremony in coordination with the Exchange Club on the Town Green on Saturday September 2nd, at 5 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.

Have a great weekend Madison!
