First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwoman's community update

While we continue to experience extreme hot weather throughout the summer months, the Town will continue to activate cooling centers for residents to escape the heat when necessary. Please visit the Town website for more information on cooling center locations and hours.

I also want to remind residents that we are now in the middle of hurricane season. Please take a few moments to ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared for possible storm events, including extended power outages.  For information on ways to prepare for hurricanes, please visit:

Summer Concert Options
Join us this Sunday, July 23rd at 6 p.m. on the Town Green for a free concert featuring Morgan Skelly and the Old Crows. To see a full line-up for this summer, please visit our Summer Concerts webpage.

The Town also sponsors a concert series at Salt Meadow Park. For more information on the dates and line-up for the summer, please visit the Salt Meadow Park website.

Tax Bills
A reminder that the first installment of tax on the 2022 Grand List was due July 1, 2023. The last day to pay the July 1, 2023 installment without penalty is August 1, 2023 (US Postmark). Payments not bearing a US Postmark must be received by 4:30 p.m. on August 1, 2023, to avoid interest, per CT Statute 12-146.  The tax office is accepting payments in person, by mail, and through the Tax Payment Drop Box (located on the exterior wall of the Tax Collector’s Office).  M&T Bank offers in-branch tax payment processing during the month of July for current tax bills.  The original tax bill must be provided at the time of processing.  Tax bills are also viewable and payable online at www.madisonct.org/taxpayments.

Special Town Meeting Monday, July 24th
Please be advised that the town will hold a Special Town Meeting on Monday, July 24th at 6:30 p.m., at Town Campus to approve a special appropriation of $2,400,000 from the Town’s unassigned fund balance for the construction of additional classrooms at the new Pre-Kindergarten- Grade 5 school on Mungertown Road. An overview of the funding plan for the Madison School Renewal Plan can be found on our website. Visit the New Elementary School Building Committee webpage for information on the status of the new elementary school project.

Beachcomber Night
On Thursday, August 17th the Madison Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Beachcomber Night in downtown Madison from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Beachcomber Night is an outdoor event featuring live music, wine, & beer tastings, food vendors, and drawings for great prizes. The event will span both the north and south sides of Rt. 1, as well as Wall Street. Part of this year’s proceeds will benefit Madison Hose Company No. 1 and North Madison Volunteer Fire Dept. Please visit the Chamber’s website for more detailed information and to pre-purchase tickets.

Have a great weekend Madison!
