Cannabis Survey
The Town is soliciting feedback from voters on the issue of cannabis regulation in our Town. The survey is open to residents who will be eligible to purchase cannabis in the next year, and can be found on our website.  Paper copies and a drop box are also available at the Senior Center and E.C. Scranton Memorial Library.  We encourage all eligible residents to participate in this important survey! The survey has been extended and will be available until 4:30 p.m. on April 21st.

Town Strategic Plan
April begins a town-wide initiative to develop a 10-year strategic plan. A strategic plan will establish Madison’s overall, long-term vision for the future, serve as a roadmap to meet community goals and objectives, and guide future budgets and capital plans. We will be offering a number of ways residents can participate in the strategic planning process, including community workshops, surveys and focus groups, among others. Please check the town website in the coming month to find out ways to participate in this important initiative.

2023-2024 Budget
Recently the Board of Finance voted to recommend a combined Town and School Budget of $94 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Details on the proposed Budget is available at www.madisonct.org/budget. The Board of Finance will be holding a Public Hearing on April 18, 2023 for taxpayers to provide public comment on the proposed Budget. Details on how to attend the Public Hearing is available on the Town website. A reminder that the Annual Budget Referendum will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Absentee ballot information for the Budget Referendum can be found by contacting the Town Clerk’s office at 203-245-5672; or by visiting the Town Clerk’s webpage www.madisonct.org/vote

Public Hearings on Cannabis and Flood Plain
The Board of Selectmen will be holding a Public Hearing on Monday, April 24th at 6:30 p.m. at Madison Town Campus Room A and on zoom to receive public feedback on a draft ordinance for the prohibition of Cannabis Establishments in Madison and a draft Flood Plain Ordinance.  Drafts of both ordinances are available in the Town Clerk’s office and on the Town website.

Summer 2023 Beach Stickers
Beach pass parking stickers for the 2023 summer season are now available for purchase online, through the mail, or in person at the Beach & Rec office at the Surf Club. A reminder that parking stickers or daily parking passes will be required at all three Town beaches starting Memorial Day on weekends only, and seven days a week starting on Monday, June 19th through Labor Day. Please visit the Town website at www.madisonct.org/beachstickers for more information on pricing and ways to purchase a sticker.

Beach & Recreation Projects
Please note that the Town will be undertaking a number of public improvement projects at different recreation facilities. This may mean some facilities will be unavailable for public use for a short period of time during construction. This includes:

  • Surf Club Playground: The Town will be replacing and upgrading the playscape at the Surf Club. This project will kick off at the end of April. Beach and Recreation will send out updates as they firm up the construction date and timeline for potential closures.
  • Academy Playground: The Town will be replacing the wood chips with playground rubber mulch. This will require the playground to be closed for a few days next week during the replacement. Beach and Recreation will send out an update.
  • Salt Meadow Dog Park: The Dog Park is on schedule to be completed by the beginning of May. Look for more information about a Grand Opening soon.
  • Town Tennis Courts: Construction will begin in the next two weeks.

Green-up, Clean-up Day 🌼
Madison’s Annual Green Up, Clean Up Day is on Saturday, April 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  This event has been helping to resolve the problem of roadside litter for many years now. In previous years, more than 400 residents and diverse civic groups have gathered together and collected up to 4 tons of litter in a 4-hour period.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Talk to the organizations which you are associated with and plan to work together for a great cause.
  • Keep an eye out for places that are in need of a clean-up.
  • Get a group of your neighbors together to pick up debris in your neighborhood.

Complete one registration form for your group or call 203-245-5602.

Then at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th check in either at Memorial Town Hall, 8 Meetinghouse Lane or Roberts Food Center in the North Madison Shopping Center. Pick up your supplies: bags, gloves, and safety vests for the children and then GO TO WORK!

Kids Open Parking Lot Event

The Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee is holding a free biking event for kids from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. April 22 and May 20 at Ryerson Elementary School (982 Durham Road).  A small course will be set up to help build turning and stopping skills. They will check your helmet and look over your bike too! [More Information]

New Town of Madison App

The Town is now offering many ways to receive information about important activities and events. The Town recently launched a new MadisonCT mobile app to make it easier to access public services and find information about town events at your fingertips.  Pop-up notifications can be customized to fit your interests as well as request notifications of Town calendar events, see agendas of boards and commissions, get job postings, as well as other important alerts.  Please visit www.madisonct.org/app for more information or visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download it.

In addition to the new Town app, we continue to encourage all residents to subscribe to the Town’s Madison Alerts system. Madison Alerts provides important information via text and email regarding storms and other issues of significant public interest, as well as the delivery of the First Selectwoman’s bi-weekly community update. To sign-up for Madison Alerts, please visit www.madisonct.org/MadisonAlerts

Have a great weekend Madison!
