[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Alert

winter storm alert

Good afternoon, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with important information about a major winter storm system expected to start tonight and last through Wednesday morning. This potential Nor’Easter is expected to bring a mix of snow and rain, high winds and possible coastal flooding to our area. Although the rain/snow line for this storm is unpredictable, current forecasts indicate we will mostly see rain along the coast with up to 3 inches of snow. However, high winds combined with wet snow sticking to trees may cause moderate power outages in Madison.

This evening we can expect a wintry mix to become heavier across the state and wind gusts to increase to up to 45 MPH over night.  A coastal flood advisory has been issued for the shoreline with high tide expected at about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday morning in Madison. On Tuesday, moderate to heavy wet snow is expected to spread across the state, impacting driving conditions but tapering off into light snow overnight and ending at daybreak on Wednesday.

All residents should be preparing for this major storm event, including securing loose items outside that might be thrown around by wind or rain, preparing for coastal flooding in our beach communities and low-lying areas, and preparing for possible power outages.

The Town Emergency Operations Team is making storm preparations and coordinating with Eversource. Please contact 911 if you are experiencing an emergency or see a downed power line blocking a road. Do not approach it.  If you experience a power outage at your home, please contact Eversource at 1-800-286-2000 or visit them online at https://www.eversource.com/cg/customer/reportoutage. You can also sign up to receive outage alerts via text, email or phone by logging into your Eversource account or texting 23129. In the event of power outages, be sure to run generators outdoors and away from windows and doors.

Stay safe Madison!
