Good afternoon, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with important information about a large storm system expected to bring a mix of snow and sleet to our area this evening. Strong winds coupled with a mix of wet snow and freezing rain may cause some power outages and coastal flooding.
This evening we can expect a mix of snow, sleet and rain to move into Connecticut around 7:00 p.m. and spread across the state. Winds will begin increasing around midnight and may gust up to 50 MPH at times along the coast by early morning. Precipitation may change back to light snow tomorrow morning and end by Saturday afternoon. However, water stacking in Long Island Sound overnight may cause some flooding along the coast during high tide, approximately 9 a.m. Saturday morning in Madison.
All residents should be preparing for this storm event, including securing loose items outside that might be thrown around by wind or rain, preparing for coastal flooding in our beach communities and low-lying areas, and preparing for possible power outages.
The Town Emergency Operations Team is making storm preparations and coordinating with Eversource. Please contact 911 if you are experiencing an emergency or see a downed power line blocking a road.
