First Selectwomans community update

Next week launches the start of the traditional holiday season for our town including a lot of exciting events. Make sure you check the Town calendar for details.

Madison Holiday Gift Guide 

The Madison Economic Development Department in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce has published the 2022 Madison Holiday Gift Guide featuring 22 Madison businesses and nonprofit organizations with 112 items in 13 categories for gift giving suggestions. 

Madison Turkey Trot

The 44th annual Lenny & Joe’s Madison Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving Day at 10:00 a.m. The 5 mile race and 2 mile walk with both start and finish in the heart of Madison on the historic Madison Town Green. Please visit The Madison Jaycees website for more information about the race including course maps and parking suggestions.

Small Business Saturday and Santa Comes to Town

Once again, Small Business Saturday comes to Madison on Saturday, November 26th. We encourage residents to support our local businesses and refer to the holiday gift giving guide that highlights all the great items available in our local stores.  

We are also pleased to announce a special visitor will be coming to downtown Madison on Saturday - Santa will arrive at Cafe Allegre, 725 Boston Post Road at noon, where he will listen to all holiday wishes.

Madison Police Department Holiday Toy Drive

The Madison Police Department’s Toy Fund and Food Drive to benefit local families and the Yale New Haven Hospital Children’s Toy Closet will be accepting donations now through December 31. Toys, board games, books, gift certificates, etc. for children through the age of 16 are needed. All new, unwrapped gifts or monetary donations and food items may be dropped off at the Police Department located at 9 Campus Drive 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Madison Police Department will also be collecting non-perishable food items at the Madison Police Department through December 31st. 

Town Hall Holiday Office Hours

Before visiting Town offices during the holiday season, please take a moment to check the Town website for special holiday hours or closures in effect. 

November:

  • Wednesday, November 23, 2022 closing at 2:00 p.m. in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday
  • Thursday, November 24, 2022 closed for Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday, November 25, 2022 closed for the Day After Thanksgiving

December:

  • Wednesday, December 14, 2022 closed from 12:00pm to 2:00pm for holiday lunch
  • Thursday, December 22, 2022 closing at 4:30 p.m. in observance of the Christmas holiday 
  • Friday, December 23, 2022 closed in observance of Christmas Eve
  • Monday, December 26, 2022 closed in observance of the Christmas holiday
  • Thursday, December 29, 2022 closing at 4:30 p.m., in observation of New Years holiday

Faith’s Holiday Toy Drive

This year Faith’s Annual Holiday Toy Drive, benefiting the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital Toy Closet and Child Life Program, will be held on Saturday, December 10th from 9:00 a.m., to 2:00 p.m., at What’s Cookin, 78 Boston Post Road. Please come by and make a donation for the final year of this event. Help them achieve their goal of collecting over 6,000 toys, achieving a hospital record for a toy collection drive. 

New PK-5 School Building Community Survey  

Tecton Architects, the architecture firm designing the new PK - 5 school building on Mungertown Road, held the second of a series of workshops on the new building on Nov. 9 via Zoom. The entire presentation is available to watch on YouTube and community members are encouraged to complete the post-workshop survey. The next workshop will take place in January 2023.  

Tree Lighting

The Madison Beach and Recreation Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 9th, starting at 6:00 pm by the Town green. Join us for the lighting of the tree, music by Larry Stevens, hot cocoa from Scout Troop 490 in Madison, and a visit from Santa and Rudolph.

Public Hearing on Tree Removal

The Board of Selectmen is holding a Public Hearing on November 29th at 6 p.m. at the Madison Town Campus and via zoom regarding trees identified for removal by Eversource in the Town right of way along River Road and Mill Road as part of the Eversource Resiliency Program.  All trees on public property planned for removal have been posted at the site. Residents are welcome to ask questions and share their concerns at the Public Hearing relating to the removal of Town trees. 

Details on the Public Hearing can be found on the Town website along with a summary of the Eversource Resiliency program. Any public comment can be submitted in advance via email at bos@madisonct.org by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29th.
