The Town of Madison is embarking on an LED streetlight demonstration project on Middle Beach Road. Two new LED fixtures from each of three different manufacturers and one from the fourth, were installed along Middle Beach Road.
Our goal, in addition to saving energy and money, is to enhance both the pedestrian and vehicular experience and safety on our streets.
Besides the savings in energy and energy cost of over 60%, the LED streetlights have many other environmental and cost advantages as well, including: significantly improved light quality, less glare and uplight, International Dark-Sky Association approval, no environmental disposal issues, and significantly longer lamp life compared to the current streetlights (the new fixtures all come with a 10 year warranty), and therefore significantly reduced maintenance costs and waste.
Please visit Middle Beach Road between Island Avenue and Linden Lane at night to observe the lights and let us know what you think by completing the following survey.
For those interested in learning more about these new streetlights, please join us on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the East Wharf beach parking lot for a tour and discussion of the new fixtures.
