Charter Revision on November Ballot

I want to alert residents that there will be two important local questions on the November 8, 2022 ballot regarding changes to the Madison Town Charter. Our municipal charter is the basic document that defines the organization, powers, functions and essential procedures of Madison’s Town government.  Both questions are the result of an 18 months long public process spearheaded by a volunteer Charter Review Commission charged with updating our Town Charter, which currently dates back to 2006.  The two questions will be listed as Question #2 and Question #3 on the November ballot.

  • Question #2 asks if the term for members of the Board of Selectmen, including the First Selectman, should be extended to 4 years from 2 years.
  • Question #3 asks if the Town should adopt all other proposed changes as recommended by the Charter Review Commission.

For more information on the proposed changes, please visit www.madisonct.org/CharterReview for an explanatory text outlining some of the more substantive proposed changes and a redline version of the existing Charter highlighting all proposed changes.  Printed copies are available in the Town Clerk’s office at the Madison Town Campus, at the Senior Center, and at the Scranton Library. Please be an informed voter by learning more about these important questions which will have a direct impact on how our Town government operates for the future.

Absentee Ballots

The 2022 State Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8th and Absentee Ballots are available in the Town Clerk’s office.  You can obtain an Absentee Ballot Application in the Town Clerks office or from the website. The Town Clerk would like you to know that many campaigns and organizations are mailing voters an Application for Absentee Ballot so you may receive duplicate Applications.  If you choose to vote by Absentee Ballot and have submitted an application to the Town Clerk, please disregard the others.  Additionally, the Application must be fully completed or it will be returned. The drop box located outside of Town Hall is open to receive applications and ballots.  Absentee ballots must be returned by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.  Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

More information on the Election, Absentee Ballots and voting locations is available at www.madisonct.org/vote

Trunk or Treat

Madison’s Traditional Halloween favorite, Trunk or Treat, will be held on the Town Green on Monday, October 31st from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Organized by the Madison Chamber of Commerce, Madison Police Department and the Town of Madison, this event offers an opportunity for families to gather in a safe outdoor environment to celebrate Halloween. Decorated car trunks are welcome but must be registered in advance.

Affordable Housing Committee – Volunteers Needed

The Board of Selectmen is seeking volunteers for its recently established Affordable Housing Committee. This committee will assist the Town in implementing Madison’s recently adopted Affordable Housing Plan and work with municipal staff, commissions, and stakeholders on housing initiatives. If you are interested in expanding Madison's housing stock to create a more economically diverse community, please visit our website to read more about the Affordable Housing Committee and how to complete an application. Deadline is Friday, October 28th.

Rockland Preserve Native Pollinator Habitat Planting Fest

Please note that the Rockland Preserve Advisory Committee is looking for volunteers to help plant shrubs and perennials for its native pollinator habitat at Rockland Preserve on Saturday, October 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please meet at Renee’s Way Trailhead, 99 Renee’s Way.
