PROCLAMATION
Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October 2022
WHEREAS, the family is the foundation of a safe and healthy community. It is a goal of this administration for our communities to be safe, and;
WHEREAS, the problem of domestic violence affects all citizens crossing all racial, social, religious, ethnic, geographic, and economic groups, and;
WHEREAS, domestic violence is widespread. Each year, men, women, and children are impacted. About one in four women and nearly one in ten men have experienced violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime. The numbers are astonishing but can give an idea of the need to raise awareness and support those impacted, and;
NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Madison, Connecticut, in recognition of the impact that domestic violence has on the health and well-being of our community, do hereby proclaim the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the Town of Madison. Dated at Madison, Connecticut this 11th day of October 2022.
FURTHER, We reaffirm the commitment of the Town of Madison to reducing violence in our homes, as well as on our streets. We urge all citizens to participate in the activities planned by battered women’s programs and community organizations during this month. This month let us remember the victims of domestic violence.
