[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

Memorial Day Weekend

The Town, in partnership with the American Legion and VFW, will be honoring our fallen veterans this Monday, May 30th, with a return of our Memorial Day Parade followed by a remembrance ceremony on the Town Green. The Parade will step off at 10 a.m. and start at the intersection of Samson Rock Drive and the Boston Post Road, then proceed west on the Boston Post Road through the downtown area, concluding with a ceremony at the Town Green. Note that this will create traffic detours and road closures during the event.

Beach Parking Stickers

I want to remind residents that a 2022 Beach Parking Sticker or a daily parking pass will now be required to park at all Town Beaches on weekends. They will be required 7 days a week starting June 18th. In-person purchase of beach parking passes is available at the Surf Club office seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for walk-up service. Madison residents can also purchase seasonal beach parking passes on-line through the Beach & Recreation website and use their receipt as proof of residency for up to ten days after the purchase date. Visitor and resident daily parking passes will also be available for purchase at the Surf Club offices. Resident Guest Parking Passes are $10 per vehicle per day, and Non-Resident Visitor Parking Passes are $40 per vehicle per day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, and $25 each for other weekdays.

Madison Hammonasset Shuttle

I am pleased to announce the state will resume its ParkConneCT shuttle service in Madison again this year. This free bus service links several locations in our downtown directly to Hammonasset State Beach. This program offers a fare-free Madison Shuttle run by 9 Town Transit on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through Labor Day. It includes a 30-minute loop through our downtown - starting at the 79 Commuter Parking Lot, stopping at the Madison Shoreline East Train Station, stopping at the corner of the Boston Post Rd. and Wall Street, and then traveling to the Hammonasset Camp Grounds and Middle Beach inside Hammonasset State Park. More information on timetables and stop locations can be found https://estuarytransit.org/parkconnect/

Dog Licenses

I want to remind Madison dog owners that June is dog licensing month in Connecticut. This year the Town is offering many options to obtain a license, including an online renewal of previous licenses.  Please visit the Town Clerk’s website or call 203-245-5672 for more information.

Pride Month

The Town will be holding a ceremony outside the Madison Town Campus next Wednesday, June 1st at 9 a.m. to recognize the start of Pride Month in the Town of Madison. All are welcome to attend.”

And finally, I want to alert residents that Town Offices will be closing at noon on Thursday, June 2nd for an employee event. Please plan ahead for any service needs for that day.

poppyAs we enter this holiday weekend, please take a moment to remember those who heroically answered a call for duty to serve in our military with bravery and honor, but tragically lost their lives to protect us. We are grateful for their service, along with the service of the many men and women today who are serving our nation in the military during these very challenging times.

Have a great weekend Madison!
