First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s biweekly update

COVID Update

This week marks the two-year anniversary of the Governor’s declaration of a public health emergency in our state. Since that declaration, our lives have been transformed by the pandemic and we have been asked to adapt to new, ever-changing circumstances.  Many of us have suffered a loss, cared for a sick loved one, or endured and survived this horrible disease. Despite these hardships, we can be grateful that the Madison community has come together to support each other during this difficult time and is well positioned to stay on a path towards a strong post-COVID recovery.  We can be proud of the accomplishments our Town has made in overcoming this crisis and know we as a community are ready and able to face any future challenges down the road, COVID-related or others.

Summer 2022

As we start to enjoy the signs of spring, the Town is getting ready for the 2022 summer beach season. Registration is now open for most summer camps and programs. Please visit the Beach & Recreation website for more information on summer programming options for kids and how to register. In addition, beach pass parking stickers for the 2022 summer season are now available for purchase online, through the mail and in person. A reminder that parking stickers or daily parking passes will be required at all three Town beaches starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Please visit the Town website at www.madisonct.org/BeachStickers for more information on pricing and ways to purchase a sticker.

2022-2023 Budget

Earlier this week the Board of Finance voted to recommend a combined Town and School Budget of $91 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. Details on the proposed Budget will be available next week at www.madisonct.org/budget. The Board of Finance will be holding a Public Hearing on April 25, 2022 for taxpayers to provide public comment on the proposed Budget. Details on how to attend the Public Hearing will be available on the Town website in April. The Annual Budget Referendum will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Absentee ballot information for the Budget Referendum can be found by contacting the Town Clerk’s office at 203-245-5672; or by visiting the Town Clerk’s webpage www.madisonct.org/vote

Building Committees

Following on the approval of the Madison School Renewal Plan, the Board of Selectmen is receiving applications for the Elementary School Building Committee until March 31. For information on the Elementary School Building Committee, please visit www.madisonct.org/SchoolBuilding . Visit our town website to complete the application.  Please note that the committees associated with the Academy Community Center project have not been finalized. Committee information and applications will be finalized in April. If you have already submitted an application for the Academy project, the Town will hold them for review when the committee charges have been approved.

And finally, I want to remind residents that my bi-weekly updates are now being distributed through email and text message only, rather than through a voice recording. If you prefer to listen to a recording of this message, please call (203) 245-5637 after 5 p.m. where a weekly voice recording will be available. Please note that any important emergency management communications will continue to include a robo-call along with email and text communications.

Have a great weekend Madison!
