[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good afternoon, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s biweekly update.

COVID Update

Madison currently has 14 cases and no hospitalizations. This past week both the Town and Board of Education approved a mask optional policy for all Town and school facilities. As we continue to see a reduction in positivity rates across the state, I will be transitioning my bi-weekly announcements away from COVID related information to focus more on Town announcements and community events. In addition, all future bi-weekly updates will be distributed through email and text only, rather than through a voice recording. In the future, if you prefer to listen to a recording of my bi-weekly messages, please call (203) 245-5637 after 5 p.m. where a weekly voice recording will be available. Please note that any important emergency management communications will continue to include a robo call along with email and text communications.

2022-2023 Budget

On February 28th the Board of Selectmen recommended a Town and Education budget for review and final approval by the Board of Finance. The first of two public hearings was held on March 2nd for residents to hear an overview of the proposed budgets and ask questions. For any resident that was unable to attend, the presentation can be found on the Town’s website.

The Board of Finance will meet throughout March and April to review the proposed budgets and make any other changes before recommending a final budget for a referendum. Please visit www.madisonct.org for a schedule of Budget Workshops and for information on the final Public Hearing to be held April 25, 2022, and the Referendum to be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Absentee ballot information can also be found by contacting the Town Clerk’s office at 203-245-5672; or by visiting the Town Clerk’s webpage www.madisonct.org/vote

Appointive Commissions Vacancies

Vacancies need to be filled on other Appointed Boards. Each Board or Commission has its own page on the Town website (www.madisonct.org) where interested residents can find the Charge detailing the work of the commission, as well as current open terms. To apply for an open term please complete application the form on the Town website or, if applicable, please reach out to your Town Party.

Also, in the coming weeks the Board of Selectmen will be looking to fill vacancies on the newly created Elementary School Building Committee and a future Building Committee for the Academy Community Center Building. For information on the Elementary School Building Committee, please visit www.madisonct.org/SchoolBuilding. To be notified of the application process for this committee, or the creation of the Community Center Building Committee, please subscribe to alerts through the Madison webpage at www.madisonct.org.

Have a great weekend Madison!
