[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

COVID Update

Madison currently has 64 active cases in our community and 2 hospitalizations.  Please note that this data does not include at-home testing. We are continuing to experience significant community spread of the virus and strongly advise residents to wear a mask in any public setting or indoor gathering, and get vaccinated or receive a COVID-19 booster shot if you have not already done so. These measures will provide protection from catching the virus or experiencing severe disease.

Over the past two weeks the Town has successfully distributed over 3,000 COVID-19 at-home test kits to Madison residents. Thank you to all the Town staff and volunteers who made this distribution possible. In addition, the Town continues to offer free N95 masks for residents to pick-up at 3 locations throughout town during normal business hours. Given supplies are limited, we request residents take only 4 masks per household. Masks will only be available until our recent shipment from the state runs out. Please visit the Town website for distribution locations and regular business hours.

February 15 Referendum

Earlier this week the Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to send three projects to referendum now scheduled for Tuesday, February 15, 2022.  These projects include the Madison School Renewal Plan, the Academy Community Center Proposal, and the sale of Island Avenue School.  Information on each of these projects can be found on the Town website at www.madisonct.org/referenda. Information related to voting, polling hours and locations, and requesting an absentee ballot can be found on the Town Clerk’s website. In addition, Madison registered voters and tax payers will be receiving a postcard in the mail from the Town Clerk’s office with information on voting. Absentee ballots will be available starting next week to those who submit an application and qualify to vote.

Please note that given the Town has now officially set the date of the referendum, we are restricted on what information we can provide the public on the three projects. This means some information on the Town website has been modified or removed to comply with state requirements.

Madison Public Schools will open Brown School to the public on Sunday, January 23. As part of its Madison Schools Renewal Plan, Brown Intermediate School would be turned into a K-5 school. To help those in the community who have never been in Brown visualize this potential change, the District wanted to offer the community a chance to explore the building. There will be two sessions to ensure groups can social distance: 1:15 - 2:00 p.m. and 2:15 - 3:00 p.m. Please only attend one session and do not bring your children as childcare will not be available.  Masks are required.

Have a great weekend Madison!
