[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update
Unfortunately, Madison continues to see an uptick in COVID cases, with 25 active cases in our community and 3 residents hospitalized. Some of the cases identified in Madison include the omicron variant. Given that starting next week many will begin to celebrate the winter holidays and travel to visit friends and family, we strongly advise all vaccinated residents to follow CDC guidance regarding COVID-19 booster shots which provide additional protection from the spread of the virus.
Booster shots are widely available through online sign-up at pharmacies and health care providers throughout Connecticut. More information can be found through the state’s vaccine portal. We also continue to encourage anyone with children five years of age or older to get their children vaccinated against COVID-19, especially if you are making any travel plans for the winter break. Pediatric vaccines for children age 5 to 11 are widely available through pediatric clinics and local pharmacies throughout the state. Vaccinating our young people against COVID is the best way to ensure our children stay in school.
The Town will be holding a Special Town Meeting on Monday, December 20th at 6 p.m. at Polson Middle School Auditorium regarding a Special Appropriation to fund the purchase of a property on Mungertown Road as part of the Madison School Renewal Plan, which is conditional upon the approval of the School Renewal plan at referendum. This meeting is being held in-person only. More information is available on the Town website at https://www.madisonct.org/AgendaCenter.
A reminder that the Madison Police Department’s Toy Fund and Food Drive to benefit local families and the Yale New Haven Hospital Children’s Toy Closet will be accepting donations now through December 31. Toys, board games, books, gift certificates, etc. for children through the age of 16 are needed. All new, unwrapped gifts or monetary donations and food items may be dropped off at the Police Department located at 9 Campus Drive 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Due to the approaching holidays, please be advised that Town office hours may be limited. Please check the town website or call the appropriate department in advance.
And finally, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy, safe and healthy holiday season. May everyone enjoy the last few weeks of 2021 with friends and family!
Have a great weekend Madison!
