[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s bi-weekly update.

COVID Update

Madison currently has 23 active COVID-19 cases in our community. Most of these cases fall within the 30 to 60 years old age category; 4 cases are confirmed to be vaccinated residents. The Town is actively monitoring cases in Madison and will continue to refine and adjust policies to adapt to changing circumstances.  We continue to encourage everyone to please wear a mask in any indoor public space throughout Town, including local retail stores, restaurants, churches, and other indoor settings.

Vaccine Boosters

Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to recommend that a single dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine be administered to individuals 65 and older as well as select individuals 18-64 who are at risk of severe illness as a booster at least six months after completing the primary Pfizer vaccine series.

DPH is working with vaccine providers across the state to be ready for a booster roll-out soon. Individuals who are eligible for a booster are encouraged to visit ct.gov/covidvaccine to locate a site near you. The Madison Health Department will provide more information on vaccination sites in our area on the Town website once the roll-out has been finalized.  In the meantime, we recommend residents interested in getting a booster shot to contact their primary care physician.

Municipal Elections

The Town Clerk would like to remind residents that absentee ballot applications for the 2021 Municipal elections are now available in the Town Clerk’s office and on the website. The Town Clerk’s drop box is now open to receive applications. In addition, Madison’s Registrar of Voters would like to alert District 1 voters that their polling location has been permanently relocated from the Senior Center to Walter C. Polson Middle School at 302 Green Hill Road.  District 1 voters will soon be receiving a postcard from the Registrar of Voters noting the official change of their polling location. More information on the election, absentee ballots and voting locations is available at  http://www.madisonct.org/vote

“Finding Hope” Movie Event

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 25th, Madison Youth and Family Services is co-hosting with a local advocacy group Demand Zero a viewing of the movie “Finding Hope”. The film’s content is for parents and teens, and addresses the dangers of modern-day substance abuse. It will be shown this Saturday at the Polson Middle School Auditorium at 3 p.m. followed by a question and answer session with an expert panel. More information can be found on the MYFS Facebook page.
