[ARCHIVED] First Selectwoman's Community Update

First Selectwomans community update

Good evening this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s bi-weekly update.

I am disappointed to share that we have seen new COVID-19 cases emerge in our community. Madison currently has 4 active cases, all individuals age 45 years or older who reported to have not been vaccinated.  Although Madison has the highest vaccination rate in New Haven County, we still have many eligible residents who have not been vaccinated. As the delta variant begins to spread throughout our state, it is important we work towards vaccinating as many of our qualified residents as possible in order to protect ourselves from a resurgence in this disease. If you are having difficulties getting access to the vaccine, please contact our Health Department at (203) 245-5681 for assistance in finding a vaccine clinic.

Island Avenue Proposals

Next Tuesday, August 3rd at 6 p.m. the Board of Selectmen will be holding a hybrid Public Hearing to review the three responses received to the Town’s Request for Proposal regarding the Island Avenue School Property. Information on how to attend the meeting in-person or via zoom and details on the three proposals can be found at http://www.madisonct.org/IAS . The hearing will be recorded and available for review on the Board of Selectmen YouTube page following the meeting. The Board of Selectmen will be holding a Special Meeting immediately following the Public Hearing on August 3rd to determine possible action on moving forward with one of the proposals.

Tax Payments Due

A final reminder that the last day to pay the July 1, 2021 property tax installment without penalty is this Monday, August 2, 2021. Payments not bearing a US Postmark with this date (or an earlier date) must be received by August 2, 2021 to avoid interest.  Office hours are Monday-Wednesday 8:30-4:30, Thursday 8:30-6:30, Friday 8:30-Noon.  To pay by credit, debit or electronic check, visit www.madisonct.org/taxpayments, or to pay by phone call 855-857-3353.  Convenience fees do apply.

Summer Activities

A reminder that the Beach & Recreation Department is running its free summer concert series. Concerts are held each Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Town Green, with this Sunday, August 1st, hosting the Nightshift Band, a dynamic ‘60’s, ‘70’s, and ‘80’s cover band made up of five of Connecticut’s most well-known and experienced musicians. Please refer to the Beach & Recreation website for more details on the schedule.

Have a great weekend Madison!
