[ARCHIVED] Weekly Update from the First Selectwoman: June 4, 2021

First Selectwomans Message

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.

I continue to be grateful that Madison has no new cases of COVID in our community and no active cases in our schools. Thank you to all those residents who have done their part to assist our recovery by being vaccinated.

New Madison Shuttle

I am excited to announce the recent launch of a new shuttle service in Madison that links several locations in our downtown directly to Hammonasset State Beach. The state’s new ParkConneCT pilot program was launched last week by the Governor, DEEP, and the DOT, as an initiative to provide Connecticut residents with free transportation to state parks and beaches this summer. This pilot program includes a Madison Shuttle run by 9 Town Transit that includes a 30-minute loop through our downtown - starting at the 79 Commuter Parking Lot, stopping at the Madison Shoreline East Train Station, stopping at the corner of the Boston Post Rd. and Wall Street, and then traveling to Middle Beach inside Hammonasset State Park. We are hopeful this new shuttle service will help reduce traffic congestion and parking issues on our roads during the busy summer season while also offering expanded opportunities for people to visit the state beach and enjoy Madison businesses. More information on timetables and stop locations can be found https://estuarytransit.org/parkconnect/.

Beach Stickers

I want to remind residents that a 2021 Beach Stickers or a daily parking pass are is now required to park at all Town Beaches on weekends. They will be required 7 days a week starting June 12th. In-person purchase of beach passes is available at the Surf Club office, not at Town Campus. The Surf Club office is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for walk-up service. Madison residents can also purchase seasonal beach stickers on-line through the Beach & Recreation website at www.madisonct.org/beachstickers and use their receipt as proof of residency for up to ten days after the purchase date. Visitor and resident daily parking passes will also be available for purchase at the Surf Club gate. Resident Guest Passes are $10 per vehicle per day, and Non-Resident Visitor Passes are $40 per vehicle per day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, and $25 each for other weekdays.

Dog Licenses

I want to remind Madison dog owners that June is dog licensing month in Connecticut. This year the Town is offering many options to obtain a license.  To renew or obtain a new license on-line, please visit the Town Clerk’s website at https://www.madisonct.org/155/Dog-Licenses and click on PayOnline.  You can also choose to print the registration form on that site and either drop it along with payment in the drop box outside the main entrance to Town Hall facing the Police Station, mail it to the Town Clerk, or stop in to the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours. Please call 203-245-5672 or visit the Town Clerk’s website for more information.

Have a great weekend Madison.
