Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.
I am grateful that Madison continues to have a low number of active COVID-19 cases in our community with two total cases, illustrating the significant benefits of our high vaccination rates. Thank you to all those residents who have done their part to assist our recovery by being vaccinated.
I want to alert the public that this Saturday evening, Netflix will be shooting a film in downtown Madison that will include a scene in RJ Julia along with a possible street scene. All public safety services are involved in the planning and will work to keep the disruption to a minimum during what is likely to be a very busy day for our town. Any questions regarding public safety related issues, please contact Captain Joe Race at the Madison Police Department at email@example.com.
I want to remind residents that starting this holiday weekend, 2021 Beach Stickers or a daily parking pass will be required to park at all Town Beaches. In-person purchase of beach passes is only being offered at the Surf Club office, not at Town Campus. The Surf Club office is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for walk-up service. Madison residents can also purchase seasonal beach stickers on-line through the Beach & Recreation website at www.madisonct.org/beachstickers and use their receipt as proof of residency for up to ten days after the purchase date. Visitor and resident daily parking passes will also be available for purchase at the Surf Club gate. Resident Guest Passes are $10 per vehicle per day, and Non-Resident Visitor Passes are $40 per vehicle per day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays, and $25 each for other weekdays.
The Town, in partnership with the American Legion and VFW, will be honoring our fallen veterans this Monday, May 31st with several Memorial Day services, including a public ceremony on the Town Green at 11:00 a.m. Ceremonies will be held inside of West Cemetery at 9 a.m. then proceed to West Wharf, and conclude at 11 a.m. on the large part of the Town Green with a final service including public officials. Members of the public attending these services are recommended to wear masks and socially distance. In the event of persistent rain, all outdoor events will be cancelled and a limited number of personnel will conduct the laying of the wreaths. The 11:00 a.m. ceremony will also be streamed on Zoom and details can be found at www.madisonct.org.
As we enter this holiday weekend, please take a moment to remember those who heroically answered a call for duty to serve in our military with bravery and honor, but tragically lost their lives to protect us. We are grateful for their service, along with the service of the many men and women today who are serving our nation in the military during these challenging times.
Have a great weekend Madison.
