Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.
I am both pleased and grateful to announce that as of today Madison has no active COVID-19 cases in our community and no active cases in our schools, illustrating the significant benefits of our high vaccination rate. With 62% of our total population now fully vaccinated, I continue to urge all eligible residents to please get vaccinated so we can see this number improve as we enter the summer season. There remains sufficient vaccine availability throughout the state, including several locations in Madison. The Town recently sponsored a pop-up vaccine clinic at the Scranton Library, and we will explore more ways to make getting vaccinated as easy as possible. Please check the town website and follow the Town of Madison Facebook page, or Twitter for additional pop-up opportunities.
Thank you to those residents who came out on Tuesday to vote in the Budget Referendum. Although turn-out was remarkably low, both the Town and School Budgets passed by a wide margin. A special thanks to our new Registrars of Voters, election volunteers, and Town Clerk for a safe and efficient election process. On Wednesday, the Board of Finance set a final mill rate; 2021-2022 tax bills will be sent out to property owners in June.
I want to remind residents that 2021 Beach Stickers will be required as proof of residency for parking at all Town Beaches starting next Friday, May 28th. In-person purchases of beach passes is only being offered at the Surf Club office, not at Town Campus. The Surf Club office is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for walk-up service. If you don’t have time to get to the Surf Club this week, you can purchase your beach sticker on-line through the Beach & Recreation website at www.madisonct.org/beachstickers. Your receipt from an on-line purchase will be accepted as proof of residency for up to ten days after the purchase date.
The Board of Selectmen will be holding its first in-person meeting this Monday, May 24th at 7 p.m. as a hybrid meeting, meaning that the public has the option to attend in-person or via zoom. Given room capacity limitations, anyone who would like to attend in-person will need to pre-register. The registration link is on the calendar event for the meeting.
A final reminder that starting this Monday, May 24th, Town Campus offices will be open to the general public for normal business hours five days a week, Monday through Friday. Although appointments for most services will no longer be required, we still strongly encourage residents to plan ahead and make an appointment, try to access departmental services online, or continue to use available drop boxes located across from the Police Department. Please note that masks are required to be worn in all town buildings by the public, and by Town employees when interfacing with the public, until at least June 30th.
