[ARCHIVED] Weekly Message from the First Selectwoman

First Selectwomans Message

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.

Unfortunately, Madison currently has 44 active COVID-19 cases, but I am grateful that we have no residents hospitalized and no new fatalities.  As of yesterday, Madison Public Schools had 19 active cases, including students and staff. Our active cases span across many age groups, but notably about 40% of them are children 18 years or younger, which is very concerning. Despite all the success we’ve had with vaccinating our community so far, the virus continues to spread in Madison.  Warmer weather should not encourage people to let their guard down. It remains critical that everyone, even our youngest residents, continue to wear a mask in public, maintain social distancing, and wash hands frequently.  These messages are just as true today as they were a year ago when this pandemic began.

This week the Governor announced that all adults over the age of 16 will be eligible to get vaccinated starting April 5th and that the state will work to accelerate access for the most medically high-risk individuals under age 45 during the month of April.  I also want to remind residents that starting today, people 45 years and older are eligible to be vaccinated. All eligible residents can make appointments to get vaccinated at sites throughout the state, including some area pharmacies, several major hospitals, and by calling the state COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Assist line at (877) 918-2224.  For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 vaccination locations in Connecticut, please visit ct.gov/covidvaccine. However, if you are a Madison resident age 55 years and older, and are still having difficulty getting vaccinated, please contact the Senior Center at (203) 245–5627 for assistance.

The Board of Selectmen will be holding a virtual public hearing this Monday, March 22nd at 6:00 p.m. to review a grant proposal regarding Concord Meadows, and to review changes being proposed by the Coastal Resiliency Commission to the Town’s Flood Plain Ordinance. Please visit the calendar on the town website at www.madisonct.org for more information on how to attend this virtual hearing through zoom.  I also want to highlight that the Board of Finance will be holding its final budget workshop next Wednesday, March 24th at 6 p.m. to discuss the proposed 2021-2022 Town and School budgets.  More details on this workshop can also be found on the Town’s website at www.madisonct.org

Stay safe and healthy Madison.
