[ARCHIVED] Weekly Message from the First Selectwoman

First Selectwomans Message

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.

Madison currently has 24 active COVID-19 cases in our community; we can be grateful that we continue to have no residents hospitalized and experienced no new fatalities. As of yesterday, Madison Public Schools had 4 active cases, including students and staff.

Unfortunately, due to yesterday’s weather event, the Town had to postpone its weekly clinic.  All those scheduled to be vaccinated were contacted and rescheduled for future clinics.  In addition to our seniors 75 years and older, people between the ages of 65 and 74 are now eligible register to get their vaccines. If you are a Madison resident in this age group and have not scheduled an appointment for your first dose of the vaccine, please contact the Senior Center at (203) 245-5627 for assistance.  The Town will continue to offer weekly clinics on Thursdays at the Town Campus Gym (on an appointment only basis) while supplies are available for all eligible populations.   Residents can also make appointments to get vaccinated at some area pharmacies, several major hospitals, and by calling the state COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Assist line at (877) 918-2224.  For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 vaccination locations in Connecticut, please visit ct.gov/covidvaccine.

Earlier this week, the Governor announced rolling back some of the COVID-19 restrictions implemented in reaction to the surge we experienced in the fall.  This includes expanding allowed capacity at event venues, churches, and some sporting events.  For more details, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/Covid-19-Knowledge-Base/Latest-Guidance.

Next week the Town’s newly formed Charter Review Commission will be holding its first public hearing on Thursday, February 25 at 7 p.m. through zoom.  I encourage anybody interested in expressing their views on our current Town Meeting form of government to attend this public hearing.   The Commission is eager to get public input as it starts to consider revisions to Madison’s Charter, the document that establishes the framework for Madison’s Town government. For details on this public hearing, please visit the agenda center on the Town website at www.madisonct.org.

Stay safe and healthy Madison.
