[ARCHIVED] Weekly Message from the First Selectwoman

First Selectwomans Message

Good evening, this is First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons with today’s weekly update.

Madison currently has 42 active COVID-19 cases in our community, with 3 residents hospitalized and 1 new fatality. Our sympathies are with those residents and their families who have suffered from this horrible disease. As of yesterday, Madison Public Schools had 18 active cases, including students and staff. Community spread is still very active so please remember to follow all necessary precautions to stop the spread of this disease and to get tested when showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or if coming into close contact with a known positive case.

Yesterday, the Town held its first vaccination clinic for seniors 75 years or older at the Town Campus Gym.  We were able to successfully vaccinate approximately 80 seniors, many from Madison and other shoreline communities.  The Senior Center will be reaching out in the next few days to those who attended to schedule their second dose.  We will continue to offer a weekly clinic on Thursdays on an appointment only basis, while supplies are available.  Enrollment for next week’s Madison clinic will be open to the public for those seeking a first vaccine dose through the CDC’s Vaccine Management System (VAMS) starting at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1st. You must be registered in the VAMS system in order to book an appointment. To register go to https://vams.cdc.gov/vaccineportal. Due to high demand on the VAMS system, please be patient if you do not see the Madison clinic in the system right away. We recommend you continue to check back in VAMS throughout the day.

Because vaccine supplies are limited right now, we continue to encourage eligible seniors to book any available appointment in VAMS, rather than waiting for a local clinic. If you are having difficulties registering in VAMS and need assistance, please contact the Senior Center at (203) 245–5627.  To receive the most up-to-date information on vaccines, we encourage all residents 65 years and older, or those assisting seniors in getting vaccinated, to complete the Town’s vaccine survey at www.madisonct.org/vaccine.

I want to assure residents that although vaccine supplies are limited right now, there will be opportunities for everyone to eventually be vaccinated.  Stay safe and healthy Madison.
