Dear Residents,
I want to provide another update on the status of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in our community. Currently, Madison has 43 active cases in Town, but we are anticipating numbers to fluctuate greatly in the coming days and weeks as we work through a significant backlog of reporting for positive test results, and longer wait times for both scheduling tests and receiving results. Madison’s cases continue to span across many age ranges and circumstances, but are often linked to small private gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, and youth sports-related activities.
The Town of Madison workforce has also been experiencing positive or close contact cases at a growing rate. As a result, starting this Wednesday, November 18th through Friday, December 4th, we are requiring all non-essential staff to work remotely whenever possible. We do not anticipate any disruption to public services, but we do ask for the public’s co-operation by only requesting in-person appointments when absolutely necessary, and conducting routine business with the Town via email, on-line through the website, through the mail, or by telephone. This policy is being implemented for your safety and the safety of Town staff in order to stop any further community spread. We will continue to revise and re-evaluate this policy depending on the status of the virus in our community. The recent surge in cases continues to highlight the need to get tested when experiencing symptoms or when in close contact with an infected person. Information on where to get tested can be found on the State’s 211 website at https://www.211ct.org/ where you can search for convenient testing locations throughout Connecticut. Because there is a growing backlog in the reporting system for positive cases, it is extremely important for contact tracing purposes to call the Madison Health Department at (203) 245-5614 as soon as you receive a positive test result. As always, we continue to recommend that residents cancel any unnecessary travel, limit social gatherings, wash hands frequently, and wear a mask.
