Dear Residents,
Over the past week there were no new COVID-19 cases in Madison. The number of confirmed cases remains at 168 with 8 of these being active community cases recovering at home. We are fortunate our state continues to fare well despite national trends. Let’s continue to protect each other from resurgence by practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public when distancing is not possible, and washing hands frequently. We are all in this together.
A travel advisory order requiring self- quarantine for 14 days remains in place for anyone entering Connecticut from states with high infection rates. This includes family and friends visiting local residents, or guests arriving to check into a hotel, Bed & Breakfast, or summer rental property. The number of places now identified as high risk has risen to 36 and can be found on the State of Connecticut website. The order makes the travel advisory mandatory and requires a form to be submitted to the Department of Public Health, which can be completed online by visiting ct.gov/travelform. Additionally, while there currently are no state restrictions on international travel, the federal government continues to provide international travel recommendations for anyone living inside of the United States. This Friday evening, July 31st the Beach & Recreation Department will be hosting another drive-in movie ("Sonic"), but at a new location, Salt Meadow Park. Park gates will be locked at the end of the day on Thursday, July 30th to ensure parking spaces are available for the next day’s event, and will re-open Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. for movie goers. I also want to remind residents that on Tuesday, August 11th the town will hold a presidential primary election. You need to be a registered Republican or Democrat to vote in your respective party primary. If you wish to vote in person on August 11th, the District 1 polling location has changed from the Senior Center to Polson Middle School gymnasium. District 2 voting will remain at Brown Intermediate School. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you want to vote by absentee ballot, please visit the Town Clerk’s website for up to date information on the process. All registered Democratic and Republican voters should have received an Application for Absentee Ballot from the Secretary of the State in the mail. Completed ballots can be returned by dropping them into the secure, designated Town Clerk drop box located outside the main entrance to Town Campus, or by mail.
Please note that due to continued demand for our beaches, capacity limitations will remain in effect. We are actively monitoring all car and pedestrian traffic into each facility, and observing social distancing on the beach during both low and high tides. Experience so far has indicated that the most problematic times for social distancing are between noon and 2 p.m. on weekends. Please keep this in mind as you make your beach plans.
