[ARCHIVED] BPAC Receives Honorable Mention from the League of American Bicyclists

Madison’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) caps two years of accomplishments with an Honorable Mention in its first application to become a Bike Friendly Community.

From BPAC’s Complete Streets Policy being nationally recognized as one of the top 5 Policies formally adopted in 2018, to Madison upgrading BPAC’s status from Ad-Hoc to Permanent in 2020, BPAC has made a lot of progress behind the scenes.

Two Road Safety Audits have been completed of high priority areas identified by BPAC’s public Survey, maps have been compiled, and a consultant has been hired to consolidate the information into a first draft for a Bike/Walk Master Plan for Madison.

Most recently, Madison completed a Bike Friendly Community application and was among eight first-time applicants to earn an Honorable Mention from the League of American Bicyclists.  The Honorable Mention provides a report card with a clear path to help Madison continuously improve.  The Town of Madison can be proud of this accomplishment and use it as motivation and input on how to make additional improvements to earn a Bicycle Friendly Community award in the future.

The Bicycle Friendly Community award process considers a range of elements, including a community’s efforts to improve bike infrastructure, provide bicycle education, encourage road safety, and appropriately measure success in bicycle usage.
