Dear Residents,

As of today there are 41 Madison residents and two town employees (one of whom is a resident) who have tested positive for COVID-19.  Please continue to keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers as they battle this cruel virus.  

Today we are also facing significant challenges on another front, a severe weather and high wind warning. We can expect elevated wind gusts, heavy rain, and thunderstorms throughout the day that could damage trees and powerlines, and cause a moderate number of power outages throughout our town. The strongest winds and heaviest rainfall is expected to occur between noon and 6:00 PM.  During this time, winds may gust as high as 60 - 70 MPH, with isolated higher wind gusts along the coastline.  Heavy downpours may cause some flooding in areas, and minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible during high tides between 3:00 – 4:00 PM this afternoon.   If you have not already done so, please remember to secure any items in your yard, including outdoor equipment, patio furniture and other small items that may become loose from the high winds, and avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches.

Because so many of us are working or studying from home, Eversource is very aware of its need to provide customers with the most reliable service and up to date information.  It has already developed a plan to respond to outages during the pandemic that incorporates cleaning and social distancing policies, and addresses possible staff shortages due to illness. Residential and commercial customers should continue to report a power outage by calling 800-286-2000, or online at https://www.eversource.com/customercare/ReportOutage.  Customers can also sign-up to receive outage and restoration updates via text, email or phone.     

Let’s give special thanks today to our First Responders who are working hard to protect us on so many fronts during this severe weather.  It is more important than ever for all of us to keep off the roads, and stay safe, healthy, and at home.
