Clinton Center Stop Relocated
As a reminder, the bus stop for the center of Clinton has moved from Post Office Square due to safety concerns. The eastbound (Old Saybrook) stop is located on Route 1 at the former CVS. The westbound (Madison) stop is located on Route 1 at Coffee Break.
Door-to-Door ADA Paratransit Replaces Off-Route Service
Beginning today, Route 641 from Old Saybrook to Madison no longer provides off-route service. Instead, people unable to use the route due to a disability may be eligible for our new ADA Paratransit service.
Certification requires an in-person interview and a professional verification, which can take up to 21 days. We encourage anyone who may be traveling along route 641 between Old Saybrook and Madison who is unable to use the route due to a disability to apply for ADA Paratransit eligibility.
What is ADA Paratransit?
ADA paratransit is a reservation based origin-to-destination service similar to our Dial-A-Ride program. It must be booked at least one day in advance and has a 30 minute pick-up window. The cost is twice that of the equivalent fixed-route fare, currently $3.50 each way.
How is it Different Than Dial-A-Ride?
Unlike our Dial-A-Ride, which is open to the general public, ADA Paratransit is only available to people with a disability that have gone through an application process.
ADA Paratransit offers the same hours as Route 641, making it available Monday through Friday 6:20 AM until 7:50 PM and Saturday 7:20 AM until 6:00 PM, which is beyond that of Dial-A-Ride.
ADA Paratransit is only available within 3/4 mile of Route 641. This includes the section of 641 serving Madison. Any trip with an origin or destination beyond this area would remain a Dial-A-Ride trip.
Will This Effect Dial-A-Ride?
We always try to maximize the service we provide by avoiding duplication. To that end, we will only provide Dial-A-Ride trips that both start and end within the ADA paratransit area to customers who are 60 or over after September 29th.
How Do I Travel Beyond Madison?
Since our 641 route connects with CT Transit, ADA certified customers are able to use ADA paratransit west of Madison. If you are traveling into the CT Transit service area, we will coordinate with their ADA Paratransit provider, Greater New Haven Transit District, to complete your trip.
