[ARCHIVED] STEAP Grant for Strong Field

The Town of Madison is pleased to announce that it will receive a $500,000 STEAP (Small Town Economic Assistance Program) Grant through the State of Connecticut and managed by the Office of Policy and Management. These funds will be used to complete the final phase of the renovation of the Madison Strong Field complex which consists of construction of a field house, restroom and concession buildings.

First Selectman Tom Banisch said, “This is tremendous news, as it will allow us to complete a project that was a true Public-Private Partnership. The Town and the Strong Center Board of Directors have worked together on a project that involved countless in-kind donations from area contractors, for which we are extremely grateful. Without the participation of all parties, this never would have been a reality.”

"On behalf of the Strong Center Board of Directors, we are elated with the grant awarded from our State. This community project, with the help of the STEAP Grant, is the culmination of the cooperation, effort and generosity of the citizens of Madison, the town government officials and the State. Much credit goes to Noreen Kokoruda, State Representative and Ted Kennedy, State Senator, that represent our district, and especially to Tom Banisch, First Selectman, along with former First Selectman Fillmore McPherson. Now the children and the residents of Madison can enjoy a state of the art facility for many years to come. The Strong Center Board of Directors are most grateful for the kindness of our donors, town and State,” Larry Ciotti.

Phases I and II of the project have been completed and include a synthetic surfaced multi-purpose and softball playing field, playing field lighting and a 2,000 person capacity grandstand seating structure.

The final phase has been on hold and without these funds the project could not be completed.
