Guidance for Installation of Mailboxes

Mailboxes should be installed in accordance with U.S. Postal Service regulations and American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials guidelines.  Generally, these regulations and guidelines require that mailboxes be installed on a sturdy post able to withstand the forces of plowed snow, the bottom of the mailbox should be between thirty-nine (39) and forty-eight (48) inches above the ground surface and the face of the mailbox be between eight (8) inches and twelve (12) inches from the edge of the street travel way.
