All child day care facilities in Connecticut are licensed and inspected by the Connecticut Department of Health. For licensing purposes, each child day care facility falls into one of three categories.
- Family Day Care Homes - 6 or fewer children in a private home
- Group Day Care Homes - 7 to 12 children in a private home
- Child Day Care Centers - more than 12 children in a dedicated day care facility
All new child day care centers are inspected by the Madison Health Department prior to opening and every 2 years thereafter or when there are any changes to the facility or the program. Inspection reports are sent to the Connecticut Department of Health.
