Major construction will wind-down this week for the Madison Center Project. While weather conditions weren’t as cooperative this week as they have been for most of the project, but the contractors have still made significant progress installing the brick pavers. Many of the tree grates were installed this week and the brickwork was finished around them. The trees themselves, however will not be planted until spring to ensure their successful growth. On Thursday several of the light poles and their bases were installed. The lights themselves have not yet arrived and will be installed sometime in the future. “Progress has been consistent and it is really exciting to see the brick paver installation almost complete on the north side of town,” said Ryan Duques, EDC Chair. “While major construction will end on November 15, limited bricklaying and utility work will continue until complete,” he added. The Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission planned with the downtown retailers to halt major construction activities on November 15 to allow retailers to fully benefit from the holiday season. This will ensure that parking is available and stores are accessible. To complete small sections of the sidewalk, limited construction will continue, resulting in restriction of a small number of parking spaces. Major construction will restart in the spring once the weather permits. Celebration Planned for Tuesday To celebrate the progress made this fall and the full reopening of parking and business accessibility on our center’s north side, the EDC and Chamber of Commerce are planning an informal celebration at 4pm on Tuesday, November 17. The celebration, which will include brief remarks and refreshments will be held in front of the Post Office (should there be rain, the event will take place under the theater overhang).
